Ordering Prints

Home / Ordering Prints

I ship all prints in a protective tube to prevent any damage and your order is also sent insured. I only accept PayPal for all print payments. What that means is that I never see or collect or save your credit card information. Believe me, I don’t want the responsibility. Prices are for prints only, you have to add extra for shipping (usually $5-10 depending on order).

Now on top of all that, if you order through Paypal your transaction is essentially insured by them. (Which is also good for me.) I haven’t had a single case of fraud in the five years I’ve been selling on the web, but it is nice to know that your information is protected which is why I continue to use Paypal.

You should contact me first before ordering any prints, so we can discuss any cropping or framing issues. Some customers like a white border around the print, other want the image printed right to the edge. There are many other options as well, including the type of photo paper.

Also remember that digital cameras shoot in 2 x 3 image ratio. So that means if you want a FULL non-cropped print, you need to pick a size that is a 2 x 3 ratio. But some people like to use other frame sizes, like 8 x 10. This is a common cheap frame size. Just note that the image has to be cropped to fit in this size print. Sometimes this is not an issue, but sometimes a key part of the photo gets cropped, so it will not look good. Each image is different. On any images that get cropped, I can show you up front what it will look like with a small JPEG, then you know exactly how it gets cropped.

If you are going to frame the print, plan ahead. You CAN get 2 x 3 ratio pre-made frames now, they sell them at Micheal’s Arts & Crafts. Also consider if you want to also have a matte! Adding a matte and frame makes the entire wall hanging much larger than the print, but it looks much nicer with a matte and frame. It’s your wall, you decide. Custom archival framing is the best method, but this will cost a lot more money. Custom Framing uses acid free mattes and materials that will protect the photo from fading, and they will also use museum quality glass. Pre-made frames use cheap glass that has a slightly green tint. Museum quality glass is perfectly clear. You might not notice the tint in cheap glass, but when you put them next to each other – it is night and day difference.

Think about how you want to display the print before you pick the size. The framing costs can cost MORE than the print.

Also note that Micheal’s sell some really cool frames that have multiple 4 x 6 and 5 x 7 openings in the matte, so you can put multiple photos in one frame. They are called Collage Frames and they have 4, 5 or even 6 openings in the matte. These look really cool when you take multiple smaller photos and turn it into one big framed display. If you would like me to frame your photo print, call me to discuss the best options. I can ship prints fully framed with archival mattes and museum quality glass.

There are 4 photo paper choices:

Kodak Endura Glossy
Kodak Endura Lustre
Kodak Endura Matte
Kodak Endura Metallic

I usually use Metallic for concert photos, it has the brightest color saturation and looks fantastic. The other paper I often use is the Kodak Endura Lustre. I rarely use the Glossy, and the Matte is really meant for things like family portraits or black & whites.

Also, if anyone wants a color photo converted to black & white, I can offer that option. It looks really goodl on some images. The prints are actually made in color, but the image gets converted to all neutral tones, called a quadtone. It makes the blacks looks really rich in saturation. It looks great on the Kodak Endura Matte paper.
